Auf der Inntalautobahn A 93 Richtung Kiefersfelden/Kufstein. Ausfahrt Kiefersfelden, nach gut 1,2 km an der T-Kreuzung links (Richtung Ortsmitte und Kufstein) und nach 450 m auf der Rosenheimer Straße bei der nächsten Ampel rechts in die Thierseestraße einbiegen. Nun 3,1 Kilometer (ab Ampelkreuzung) fahren - Schmalspurgleise begleiten wechselseitig die Straße - bis rechts hinauf eine Straße abzweigt nach Breitenau. Hier fahren wir rechts hinauf, an den Bauernhäusern links vorbei, die Teerstraße wird zur Piste, links unterhalb liegt die Schopperalm,wir passieren die Wegegabelung, (2,7 km von der Beginn der Auffahrt - Abzweigung Thierseestraße - entfernt). An der Wegegabelung sehen wir gelbe Wegweiser ("Rechenau" bzw. "Hintere Gießenbachklamm"). Hier wird das Auto für den Einstieg in die mittlere Gießenbachklamm abgestellt. Wir fahren jedoch weiter, dem Schild "Hintere Gießenbachklamm 40 Min" folgend. Nach insgesamt 4,4 km ab Thierseestraße kommen wir zum Wanderparkplatz am Ende der - bis hierher erlaubterweise - befahrbaren Forststraße.

On the Inntal freeway A 93 direction Kiefersfelden/Kufstein. Exit Kiefersfelden, after a good 1.2 km turn left at the T-junction (direction town center and Kufstein) and after 450 m on Rosenheimer Straße turn right at the next traffic light into Thierseestraße. Now drive 3.1 kilometers (from the traffic lights) - narrow-gauge tracks alternately accompany the road - until a road branches off to the right up to Breitenau. Here we go up to the right, past the farmhouses on the left, the tarred road becomes a slope, on the left below lies the Schopperalm, we pass the fork in the road, (2.7 km from the start of the ascent - junction Thierseestraße -). At the fork in the road we see yellow signposts ("Rechenau" or "Hintere Gießenbachklamm"). Here we park the car for the entry into the middle Gießenbachklamm. However, we continue, following the signs "Hintere Gießenbachklamm 40 min". After a total of 4.4 km from Thierseestraße, we come to the hikers' parking lot at the exit of the - up to here permitted - forest road.

Zu Fuß geht es auf der Forststraße weiter, am Gießenbach entlang. Nach etwa 500 m sehen wir rechts unterhalb der Straße die kurze (lediglich gut 100 m lang) Hintere Gießenbachklamm. Nach 800 m (ab Parkplatz) mündet von links der Alpbach in den Gießenbach, wir halten uns hier weiter am Gießenbach und kommen nach fast 2 km zum Naturfreundehaus Gießenbachhütte. Wir gehen noch etwa 100m geradeaus weiter, dann endet der Forstweg in einer etwas unübersichtlichen Gabelung in mehrere Pfade. Hier sind wir seinerzeit rechts am steilen Hang über dem Gießenbach aufgestiegen. Auf verschiedenen Topokarten ist jedoch auch ein Pfad eingezeichnet (nicht verifiziert), der nach Querung des Gießenbaches am gegenüberliegenden orograf. rechten Hang aufwärts zieht bis auf 1200m Höhe, dann in etwa horizontal in grundsätzlich westlicher Richtung zieht, um nach Querung des 3. Bachlaufs (nach Karte) rechts hinunter zu führen in das Kiesbett des oberen Gießenbaches (Einstieg auf 1140 m Höhe). Weiter nun aber auf unserem seinerzeitigen Zustieg am Nordhang über dem Gießenbach führt uns der zeitweise auch etwas exponierte Jägersteig ebenfalls bis auf etwa 1200 m Höhe. Etwa dort, wo der Pfad aus dem lichten Wald auf die Wiesen oberhalb austritt, nehmen wir eine Spur,die horizontal am Hang entlang läuft und steigen dann auf Sicht in das breite Kiesbett des Gießenbaches ab. Wir kommen an derselben Stelle in den Bach wie der Zustieg von der gegenüberliegenden Seite.

Continue on foot along the forest road along the Gießenbach stream. After about 500 m we see the short (only 100 m long) Hintere Gießenbachklamm gorge on the right below the road. After 800 m (from the parking lot) the Alpbach flows into the Giessenbach from the left, we continue along the Giessenbach and after almost 2 km we reach the Naturfreundehaus Gießenbachhütte. We continue straight ahead for about 100m, then the forest path exits at a somewhat confusing fork into several paths. This is where we climbed up the steep slope above the Gießenbach stream on the right. However, various topo maps also show a path (not verified) which, after crossing the Giessenbach stream, climbs up the opposite orographic right-hand slope to an altitude of 1200 m, then runs roughly horizontally in a basically westerly direction, and after crossing the 3rd stream (according to the map) leads down to the right into the gravel bed of the upper Giessenbach stream (entry at 1140 m altitude). Continuing along the northern slope above the Giessenbach, the hunters path, which is also somewhat exposed at times, also leads us up to an altitude of around 1200 m. At about the point where the path emerges from the sparse forest onto the meadows above, we take a track that runs horizontally along the slope and then descend on sight into the wide gravel bed of the Giessenbach stream. We enter the stream at the same point as the access from the opposite side.

Zunächst gehen wir im breiten Bachbett fast horizontal, bis zur ersten Gefällestufe. Seinerzeit (2006) stand im Kiesbett ein Rudel Steinböcke, das sich von unserem Kommen nicht beeindrucken lies und nur etwa 10m am Hang emporkletterte, um uns passieren zu lassen.\n\nEs folgen nun Laufstrecken, Passagen des Abkletterens und einige wenige Abseiler. Der Letzte ist mit etwa (aus der Erinnerung heraus geschätzten) 30 - 35 m der Höchste. Danach läuft man noch etwa 500m bachab und steigt dann - hier kreuzt die Zustiegsvariante den Bach - links hinaus auf den Forstweg, auf dem wir anmarschierten.

First we walk almost horizontally in the wide streambed until we reach the first drop. At the time (2006), there was a pack of ibex in the gravel bed, which was not impressed by our arrival and only climbed up the slope for about 10 m to let us pass.\n\nThere are now running sections, rappel passages and a few rappels. The last one is the highest at around 30 - 35 m (estimated from memory). After that, you walk down the stream for about 500 m and then - where the access route crosses the stream - turn left onto the forest path on which we started.

Vorbei am Naturfreundehaus geht es zurück, bei Lust und Laune durchklettern wir noch schnell die Hintere Gießenbachklamm, folgen danach wieder der Forststraße bis zum Parkplatz.

Passing the Naturfreundehaus we return, if we feel like it we quickly climb through the Hintere Gießenbachklamm, then follow the forest road again to the parking lot.
