Die A-11 von Florenz nach Viareggio - Pisa an der Ausfahrt Lucca verlassen und auf der SS-12 entlang dem Fluss Serchio in Richtung Norden. Bei Chifenti führt die SS-12 rechts weiter in Richtung Passo del Abetone. Wir aber fahren hier nach links auf der SP-445 in Richtung Castelnuovo di Garfagnana. Nach ca 3 km rechts abzweigen in Richtung Tereglio - Alpe Tre Potenze. In Tereglio weiter in Richtung Passo del Giovo. Nach ca. 6 - 7 km rechts abzweigen in Richtung Orrido di Botri auf den großen Touristenparkplatz am Ende der Schlucht auf einer Meereshöhe von 640 m in Ponte a Gaio. Hier ein Auto abstellen (P1). Vorbei am Rifugio Casentino auf 1250 m Meereshöhe, stellt man das Auto rechts auf einem Platz ab, wo ein deutlich erkennbar ein leicht abwärts führender Weg beginnt (P2).

Past the Rifugio Casentino at 1250 m above sea level, park the car on the right in a square where a clearly recognizable path leading slightly downhill begins (P2).

Beim Parkplatz Zustieg P2 beginnt der Weg "Gea 14" (Grande Escursione Appenninica). Auf diesem Weg in Richtung Fontana Troghi-Monte Mosca. So kommt man zum Parkplatz Zustieg P2 und dem Rio Mariana (Alternativer Einstieg E4). Da der oberste Abschnitt des Mariana jedoch nichts bieten kann, empfiehlt sich ein Einstieg weiter unten bei E3. Dazu geht man vom Ref. Casentini in Richtung SSO abwärts. Man stößt auf eine Wegekreuzung und nimmt hier den Weg, der in spitzem Winkel links hinunter zum Bach führt (Einstieg E3). So auch nachzulesen und auf Kartenskizze zu sehen in dem Buch von "Caracal".

The "Gea 14" trail (Grande Escursione Appenninica) begins at the P2 access parking lot. Follow this path in the direction of Fontana Troghi-Monte Mosca. This takes you to the P2 access parking lot and the Rio Mariana (alternative entry E4). However, as the uppermost parts of the Mariana have nothing to offer, we recommend an entry further down at E3. To do this, head downhill from Ref. Casentini in a southeasterly direction. You come to a crossroads and take the path that leads at an acute angle to the left down to the stream (entry E3). This can also be read and seen on a sketch map in the book by "Caracal".

13 Abseiler, zuerst im wasserarmen Rio Mariana, dann, nach dem Zusammenfluß mit dem linken Flussast Rio Ribellino, lange Wanderung - mit Stufen zum Abklettern - in der Großschlucht Orrido di Botri (Rio Pelago). Möglicherweise viele Touristen, die vom Ende der Schlucht flussaufwärts heraufkommen.
