Von Locarno in Richtung Intragna, Centovalli, Valle dMaggia fahrend überqueren wir die Maggia neben dem Gleis der Eisenbahn auf der Ponte Brolla. Nach der Brücke machen Bahn und Straße gemeinsam eine 90 Grad - Linkskurve. Nach dieser Kurve biegen wir rechts ab, queren die Bahn und fahren auf der Via ai Grotti etwa 300 m, bis wir den rechterhand gelegenen größeren Parkplatz erreichen. Hier stellen wir unser Auto ab.

From Locarno in the direction of Intragna, Centovalli, Valle dMaggia we cross the Maggia next to the railroad track on the Ponte Brolla. After the bridge, the railroad and the road make a 90 degree left turn together. After this bend we turn right, cross the railroad and continue on Via ai Grotti for about 300 m until we reach the larger parking lot on the righthand side. Here we park our car.

Vom östlichen Ende des Parkplatzes kommen wir auf die frühere Eisenbahnbrücke, queren auf dieser den Fluss und steigen dann links hinunter in's Flussbett.

From the eastern exit of the parking lot we come to the former railroad bridge, cross the river on it and then descend left into the riverbed.

Der Einstieg erfolgt in aller Regel mit Sprung vom linken Ufer in den Kessel unterhalb des Wasserfalls. Dabei sollte man möglichst weit in Richtung jenseitiges Ufer springen, um nicht links in das Kehrwasser getrieben zu werden. Es folgen nun abwechselnd Schwimmstrecken, Umgehen kleinerer Stufen und Laufstrecken im fließenden Wasser. Dabei eröffnen sich immer wieder Möglichkeiten, den Fels an beiden Ufern zu erklimmen und Sprünge bis zu 20m Höhe zu machen. Auch sind mehrfach Ausstiegsmöglichkeiten eröffnet, insbes. beim großen See, der uns nach ca. 250m (ab Schluchtbeginn) erwartet. Nach dem großen See wird die Schlucht vorübergehend wieder ziemlich eng. Etwa 150m nach dem großen See kommt die "Problemzone". Mehrere Siphone, wasserreiche Abfälle und Felsen, die den Weg versperren, stellen uns bei der Wegfindung und - Bewältigung vor gewisse Schwierigkeiten. Danach erwartet uns wieder ruhiges Fahrwasser und in der folgenden Linkskurve der Maggia, wo sie sich wieder zu einem großen Badesee aufweitet, steigen wir nach rechts auf den "Sandstrand" aus.

Entry is usually made by jumping from the left bank into the kettle below the waterfall. You should jump as far as possible in the direction of the far bank to avoid being swept left into the eddy. This is followed by alternating swimming sections, bypassing smaller steps and running sections in the flowing water. There are always opportunities to climb the rocks on both banks and make jumps of up to 20m. There are also several opportunities to get out, especially at the large lake, which awaits us after approx. 250m (from the start of the gorge). After the large lake, the canyon temporarily becomes quite narrow again. The "problem zone" comes about 150m after the large lake. Several siphons, watery debris and rocks blocking the way present us with certain difficulties in finding and overcoming the path. After that, calm waters await us again and in the following left-hand bend of the Maggia, where it widens again into a large bathing lake, we exit to the right onto the "sandy beach".

Vom Ausstieg in Richtung NNW hinauf, über das Eisenbahngleis und dann auf der großen Straße ca. 500m nach rechts, bis wir wieder links in die Via ai Grotti einbiegen können. Auf dieser kommen wir zurück zu unserem Parkplatz.

From the exit we go up in direction NNW, crossing the railroad track and then turning right on the big road for about 500m until we can turn left again into Via ai Grotti. On this we come back to our parking place.
